Returns August 2023 (Will not be held in 2022)
Please join us for Feeding Avery Families biggest fundraiser of the year! The annual “Empty Bowls for Avery” is held in August. This fun lunchtime gathering of friends is held inside the  Linville Land Harbor Recreation Center (20 Linville Harbor Parkway, Newland), just off US 221 between Linville and Pineola, 11 AM until 2 PM.
Handcrafted bowls are the heart and soul of Empty Bowls, raising funds to provide food for people whose bowls might otherwise be empty. The generosity and creativity of potters, along with hard working volunteer cooks and hosts, helped raise $16,000+ at 2019’s event to purchase food.
No advance reservations or ticket required. Donate what you can at the door. Then choose a handmade pottery bowl to keep and enjoy homemade soup, bread, beverage and dessert. Bid on 100+ items silent auction gift certificates for services and meals, as well as gift baskets and art pieces – every penny goes to Feeding Avery Families. Last bids taken at 12:45 PM, and winners announced at 1:30 PM.
Approximately 500 handmade pottery bowls are created and donated by talented potters from Avery, Watauga, Ashe, Mitchell and Yancey counties, as well as by artists from across the country. Approximately 100 of the bowls are created by Mickey Banner’s art students at Avery High School, and each one shines with distinctive unique artistic flair.
Through donations like this, FAF is able to distribute food to 1,300+ Avery County individuals every month. Read more about us!
